Well I'll try to describe it without ruining the book for you. DX was a "prion" (like a virus) that was contracted by the carnivores on Site B. Evidently InGen fed the carnivores ground-up sheep extract, and your not supposed to feed that to captive animals, so they went mad. It's kind of like Mad-Cow Disease, except with dinosaurs.
